Job Posting: Back 2 School Support Worker

Currently we are seeking individuals residing in or near the Cardston area to support a family within their home and in a school-based setting. There is opportunity to branch out within the organization into other positions and programs as well.  Primary roles of the successful candidates will be to promote community integration, supporting family routines, behavior management, communication and social skills, Educational Support, as well as community access, and assisting youth and families towards accomplishing their goals. 

Within this role the successful candidate will be responsible to support two youth in getting ready for and to school each day.  The successful candidate will support one youth through their school programming and needs for the duration of the program followed by transportation home and transition back into the family environment. This individual will be responsible to collaborate with the school-based team, the parents as well as the Family Ties Association team in coordinating supports, resources and promoting growth and development. This individual will have a commitment to attend professional development seminars and Individualised Support Planning development meetings.

The successful candidate will report to a Program Supervisor as well as an on-site supervisor to collaborate on the needs of the child and promote a plan to increase skill building and participation.  As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team you will add your family focused, and strength-based skills towards fostering the healthy development of children and families.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with young children in group and individual settings
  • Promote and participate in play-based activities with young children
  • Have experience in supporting challenging behaviors, including emotional regulation and social skill development
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Provide a positive and inclusive attitude towards disability, Indigenous culture, education and teamwork.
  • Possess an understanding of supporting language development and knowledge or experience working with non-verbal persons.
  • Have knowledge in areas of literacy and numeracy.
A competitive remuneration package is available which includes a hourly rate with flexible self-directed scheduling available. Candidates may be eligible for benefits dependent on position and workload. Candidates should have a degree/diploma and experience in the Human Service Field. 

Candidates must have a valid Class 5 driver's licence (non-GDL) a reliable vehicle to use for work, with the ability to provide 2 million in Insurance liability. 

Preferred Candidates will have knowledge and experience working within Indigenous Cultures and ability to provide support to Blood Tribe Communities. Membership with Blood Tribe Band is considered an asset for this position.

The successful Candidate will be required to provide a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search as well as a Intervention Record Check.

Current First Aid Certification considered an Asset.
